While there are many churches that make this same claim, most fail to deliver. As part of the West End church of Christ, you’ll be part of a church that tries to carefully follow the Bible in everything.

Choosing a church for you and your family is one of the most important decisions you will make. Unfortunately, this decisions has often been made unnecessarily difficult.

There are over 200 churches in Licking County. While this is not a bad thing of itself, the fact is that most of these churches all believe, teach, and practice different things. Yet, they all call themselves “Christian” churches and claim to follow the Bible! Something is wrong – very wrong!

We want you to know that it was never supposed to be this way! The Bible teaches that Jesus built one church (Matthew 16:18) and all His followers were expected to be united (1 Corinthians 1:10; Philippians 1:27). He has given us everything we need to be united in the pages of His word (Ephesians 4:1-6).

As part of this, there is only one faith that pleases God (Ephesians 4:5). Having “one faith” refers to there being only one system of religious belief, teaching, and practice that pleases God. The “one faith” is taught in the New Testament, the gospel message (Philippians 1:27). Those who follow Jesus are expected to contend for that one faith and not accept anything that differs (Jude 1:3-4).

This is precisely the mission of the West End Church of Christ. Although many churches claim to go strictly by the Bible, we are very careful to make sure that what we believe, do, and teach has Bible authority. Consider this illustration.

Jesus told a parable about a sower who went out to sow his seed (Luke 8:5-18). The seed represents the word of God (Luke 8:11) and our hearts are represented as soil. It is a fundamental law of agriculture that seed produces after its own kind (Genesis 1:11-12). For this reason, you would not expect to plant corn seed and reap tomatoes.

If we were to preserve corn seed planted in Licking County, Ohio, this spring and plant it in Africa 2,000 years from now, what would it produce? If the climate and soil conditions were right, it would produce the same kind of corn that was harvested in Ohio 2,000 years earlier.

In same way, when the original seed of God’s word is planted in honest and good hearts, in any community and age, it will produce Christians identical with those we read about in the New Testament!

This is how the church of Christ at West End in Newark came into existence. And, this is how we continue to work in this community – allowing God’s unaltered word to work in our lives and to spread this same message throughout this community and beyond!

We are simply Christians who are committed to holding fast the pattern of sound words God has revealed in the Bible (2 Timothy 1:13). We wear no name but the name of Christ. We teach nothing besides Jesus’ teaching. We are saved the same way people in the New Testament were saved. We worship the same way people in the New Testament worshiped. We are organized the same way churches in the New Testament were organized. We do the same kinds of works Christians and churches in the New Testament did. And, we live according to the same standard people in the New Testament were taught to follow.

We teach what the Bible teaches. We are silent where the Bible is silent. We call Bible things by Bible names. We do Bible things in Bible ways. We demand Bible authority (book, chapter, and verse) for everything we do, believe, and teach. In doing so, we can have confidence that we are living to please God!
